Individual Therapy
When you think about the word ‘therapy’, what comes to mind? Lying on a couch, tears & tissues for the whole session or many minutes of complete silence? Therapists making you dredge up painful childhood memories while you stare out the window? Funny, you are not the only one! However over the past few decades a very different model of treatment has emerged. Quietly revolutionizing the world of mental healthcare, it is now the most widely available form of talking cure; known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT for short. Why is CBT so popular? Well it is accessible – sometimes dubbed the ‘psychology of common sense’ CBT is much more readily understood than other more complex modalities. It is also skills-based.
Therapy is not about being ‘fixed’ by an expert but rather learning the skills you need to solve your own problems and look after your own mental health. Your IMconcepts therapist will ensure you find the approach that is right for you….if it’s a combination of CBT and other forms of therapy, each case is different, everyone has unique needs and IMconcepts will ensure you feel challenged but comfortable with the path specifically taken for you.
Group Therapy

Group therapy sessions are offered throughout the year including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Depression and Anxiety as well as Emotional Fitness groups with emphasis on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness techniques. These groups are an ideal adjunct to individual therapy. Individuals with a Mental Health Care plan are eligible to receive a rebate for the group therapy via Medicare. Contact the office for more information on forthcoming groups.
Group sizes are small and designed to encourage interpersonal interactions. Groups are conducted over eight weeks comprising two hours of structured sessions ensuring consistent progress towards the achievement of goals.
Group participants have consistently stated;
"Being able to disclose personal information in a safe, empathic and understanding environment was very helpful for me..." (Christina, 37 years)
"I found that by hearing other people express views about their entrenched thinking habits, which were very like mine, allowed me to start challenging long-held beliefs..." (Rob, 53 years)
"The content of the group program has been one of the most worthwhile things I have ever done, I feel liberated in my mind." (Shane, 41 years)
